Albania amends Industrial Property Law with effect from 10 July 2014

The Albanian General Directorate of Patents and Trademarks (ALGDPT) has informed the European Patent Office that several amendments to the Industrial Property Law entered into force on 10 July 2014. ALGDPT is currently drafting the implementing regulation for the amended law.

I. Introduction

1. Under present practice, in accordance with the announcement by the President of the EPO of 23 October 1980 concerning the use of an address for correspondence by applicants acting without a representative (OJ EPO 1980, 397), legal persons may give, for the purposes of EPO notifications, an address for correspondence which is different from that of their place of business.

Numerous European patent applicants and proprietors have informed the European Patent Office (EPO) that firms and individuals have sent them invoices inviting them to pay for the publication and/or registration of their applications and patents. Similar reports have been received from applicants who filed international applications under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT applications).
