I. Background

The European Patent Office (EPO) and the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) announced on 10 October 2016 their intention to launch a comprehensive Patent Prosecution Highway pilot programme.

The President of the European Patent Office, having regard to Articles 5(2) and 7(2) of the Rules relating to Fees, has decided as follows:

Article 1

Credit card as a method of fee payment

Fees due to the EPO may be paid by credit card under the conditions set forth in the present decision.

The EPO is introducing a new method of fee payment, by decision of the President of the European Patent Office dated 22 August 2017 concerning the payment of fees by credit card (hereinafter "the decision").

The present notice defines the requirements and arrangements for this additional method of fee payment.

EPA/EPO/OEB Form 1200 has been revised to make it clearer and easier to use. A major improvement is the inclusion of a new section 12, "Acceleration of procedure", which has a check box for requesting the early processing of Euro-PCT applications under Articles 23(2) and 40(2) PCT.

OJ EPO 2017, A75 - Notice from the European Patent Office dated 4 August 2017 concerning the updating of the Guidelines for Examination in the European Patent Office

By decision of the President of the EPO dated 4 August 2017 and pursuant to Article 10(2) EPC, the Guidelines for Examination have been amended in line with the EPO’s policy of updating them on an annual basis. The amended Guidelines, which will enter into force on 1 November 2017, will be published as a complete "November 2017" edition which will supersede the November 2016 edition.
